Blood
Atypical connective tissue; goes to every part of the body except for brain. Responsiblity: transporting oxygen and nutrients
Plasma
Liquid that makes up the blood
Luekacytes
White blood cells (responsible for fighting infection)
Thrombocytes
Platelet; forms clots and scabs
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells; carry oxygen
Hemoglobin
Protein found in red blood cells; helps carry oxygen
Hematopoiesis
Creation of red blood cells in red bone marrow, triggered by low oxygen in blood
Erythropoietin
the hormone that regulates formation and destruction of red blood cells
Hemostasis
Stopping of blood flow; mostly caused by clots
Antigens
Protein on the surface of the blood
Antibody
responds to antigens by binding to them and clumping cells together for destruction
Agglutinogens
Both antibodies and antigens; surface proteins used for reception
Rh factor
Positive- receive blood from anyone positive
negative- receive blood from anyone negative
