What:

Why:
- Homestead Act and the growing demand/prices for wheat (WW1) encouraged people to farm in the Plains
- Drought in the 1930s that new farmers (from the East) weren’t equipped to deal with (like the Native Americans that they kicked out)
- Farmers planted wheat with short roots that couldn’t stand against the wind
- Dust Bowl was man-made!!
