The following verbs are not normally used in the present continuous.
like, want, need, prefer
know, realize, suppose, mean, understand, believe, remember
belong, fit, contain, consists, seem

Think
When Think = believe/have an opinion, we do not use the continuous
e.g. I think Mary is Canadian, but I’m not sure.
When Think = consider, the continuous is possible.
e.g.
I’m thinking about what happens.
Nicky is thinking of giving up her job.
see, hear, smell, taste
We usually use the present simple with these verbs
Do you see that man over there?
This room smells.
We often use can + these verbs.
I can hear a strange noise.
look, feel
You can use the present simple or continuous to say how somebody looks or feels now.
You look well today You're looking very well today. How do you feel now? How are you feeling now? But I usually feel tired in the morning. (not I'm usually feeling)
He is selfish. = always
He is being selfish. = at the moment.
He’s being = he’s behaving/he’s acting
e.g.
I can’t understand why he’s being so selfish. He isn’t usually like that.
He never thinks about other people. He is very selfish.
