Mild Cognitive Impairment
A mild form of memory dysfunction
Dementia
Includes a variety of conditions associated with damage of brain tissue
Reversible dementias
Caused by drug toxicity, hormonal or nutritional disorders, tumors and trauma to the brain
Irreversible dementias
no discernible environmental cause and can not as of this date becured
Pick’s disease
Rare, frontal and temporal lobes of the brain atrophy. Most likely to occur in younger persons age of onset 40-50, resulting n significant personality change
Creutzfeldts-Jacob and Kuru diseases
traced to a slow acting virus, can strike at any age associated with Mad cow disease, tainted beef in Great Britain and Europe
Huntington’s disease
Genetically transmitted appears in people in their 30’s & 40’s. results in more neuromuscular changes than do other dementias
Vascular demntia
Second most common form of irreversible dementia. Blood vessels leading to the brain become occluded which results in several areas of the brain show infarct or small strokes.
