English Bill of Rights:
Passed by Parliament, Establishes new joint rulers, limits the powers of the king and queen, enhances the democratic election and increases freedom of speech.
Zenger Case:
John Peter Zenger accused the governor of scandal, a court case was put against him but he was ruled innocent, this case establishes Freedom of Speech.
What were the Navigation Acts?
- Shipments from Europe to English colonies had to go through England first
- Any imports to England from the colonies had to come in ships built and owned by British subjects
- The colonies could sell key products, such as tobacco and sugar, only to England.
How did these acts affect the colonies?
They positively affected the colonies by offering guaranteed trade, and a massive shipbuilding business in New England.
Why did England pass the Navigation Acts? Why were some colonists resentful towards this act?
They were made to support mercantilism and regulate trade Some colonists ended up not liking these acts because they favored English, colonists thought they could make more money if they could trade to anywhere they wanted
What was the triangular slave trade?
Trade between Africa, the colonies, and England.The colonies would give raw materials to England. England would give finished goods to Africa and Africa would give enslaved Africans to the colonies to make more raw materials.
