What are the differences between the principal, an accessory, and an abettor?

A

Principal - who commits offence

Accessory - assists the perpetrator

Abettor - encourages or instigates perpetrator

Latter two only guilty of they have guilty knowledge.
No accession after a crime has been committed.

What is the legislation for accession?

A

Section 293 of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995

“Any person who aids, abets, counsels, procures or incites any person to commit an offence against the provisions of any statute shall be guilty of an offence.”
