A

He believed that access to central asia was essential for fossil fuel.

He also wanted control over important areas that had economic and trade value, such as the suez and panama canals. Success also meant control over key shipping lanes, port and trade routes.

Hess was imprisoned with Hitler, and Haushofer visited him in prison where he was introduced.

A

The Monroe Doctrine was a United States foreign policy position that opposed European colonialism in the Western Hemisphere. It held that any intervention in the political affairs of the Americas by foreign powers was a potentially hostile act against the United States. The doctrine was central to American foreign policy for much of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Position of the US in the early 20th century

A

It had emerged as a significant player on the world’s stage. After the defeat of the Spanish empire, the US acquired the Philippines and Cuba. This was motivated by Mahan. It also acquired Hawaii and Guam.

The path to national greatness lay in commercial and naval expansionism.

A

Basically, the US saw itself as responsible for protection of the Western Hemisphere, the European influence was no longer welcome. The Monroe doctrine was nothing new, but Roosevelt developed the doctrine in 1904.

Roosevelt and racism

A

Roosevelt also claimed responsibility of the western hemisphere due to white supremacy - he saw the white Americans as superior to the Latin Americans, but more in a civilizational and ethnographic way than a biological way like the nazis.
