unit 4 Flashcards
4 main types of tissues
- connective
- muscle
- epithelial
- nervous
4 main types of membranes
- mucous
- serous
- synovial
- cutaneous
connective tissue
connects/ binds-> classified by matrix
Muscle tissue
contracts to produce movement- 3 types
epithelial tissue
covers/ lining of the body/ organs -> classified by size and shape
Nervous tissue
conducts impulses
mucous membrane
lines things that have an opening to the external environment ( helps them not to dry out)
serous membrane
lines organs so they don’t rub against each other (less friction)
synovial membrane
lines the joints to make it easier to move
cutaneous membrane
skin -> protection, covers the body ( stratified squamous epithelial over dense fibrous connective with elastic)
functions of the integumentary system
provides protection from the external environment, regulation of body temp, helps maintain homeostasis, senses pain, touch and pressure, helps grasp and manipulate things
cutaneous glands
- sudoriferous
- sebaceous
- endocrine
- exocrine
sudoriferous
• sweat
sebaceous
oil- secretes through hair follicles
endocrine
ductless, directly into the blood
