Unit 4 Flashcards
What are the three types of plate boundaries?
- Convergent.
- Divergent.
- Transform.
How do continental to continental happen?
- When two plates of continental crust collide
- they buckle and thickens
- it forms mountains
How do continental to oceanic happen?
Occurs when a continental plate collide with an oceanic plate
- the ocean crust is more thick and subducts (or goes underneath).
-the continental crust the magma from the melted oceanic crust rises to the surface
- formed volcanoes.
How do oceanic to oceanic occur?
The older more dense plate goes under the younger plate
What does divergent mean?
It means they move away from each other
What does transform mean?
When two plates moved past each other horizontally
What are the three types of convergent?
- Continental to continental.
- Continental to oceanic
- Oceanic to oceanic.
With divergent plates, what rises toward the surface?
Magma
What is magma called when it erupts?
Lava
What does lava turn into when it cools?
Crust
What three things can form or happen at divergent boundaries?
- Earthquakes.
- Valleys.
- Volcanoes.
Where are most divergent boundaries located?
The ocean floor
True or false transformative produces magma?
False
What can happen when two plates transformed?
Earthquake
San Andreas Fault in California is a major example of which type of plate?
Transformative
