Who are the peers?
They operate from the House of Lords. Approx. 800
What are the commons?
Made up of elected representatives, MPs, who each represent a geographical area.
What are the government?
Responsible for running the country
How are laws made?
By passing acts of parliament, as statutes or legislations

Green paper, the initial report shared with the public
Stage 2 of a bill

Stage 3 of a bill
The first Reading, introduces the bill into the house of commons. Needs a first vote to move to next stage
Stage 4 of a bill
Second Reading, main principles debated by house of commons
Stage 5 of a bill
Committee stage, examined line by line by an MP from each party who report back to whole house and propose amendments
Stage 6 of a bill
Report Stage, vote on committees report and amendments
Stage 7 of a bill
Third Reading, either passed or rejected in final vote
Stage 8 of a bill
The Lords, same stages as commons will be changed till both sides are happy
