Unit 4 Flashcards
What are the 3 kinds of airborne and orbital platforms?
UAV-based, aerial, and satellite remote sensing
What are UAVs?
unattended aerial vehicles
What are frame cameras?
They mosaic images together and have a lens/filtration.
Where does the image show up in a lense?
On the focal plane
Are CCDs and CMOS digital cameras or linear arrays?
they are airborne digital frame cameras
What are the pros and cons of CMOS
they are cheaper, faster, and use less power, BUT are noiser than CCDs
What camera gives the highest geometric radiometric quality aerial photos?
Metric cameras, best for survey grade photos
what sets apart high oblique from low oblique?
You can see the horizon as one extreme doesn’t reach the earth’s surface.
What is the issue with camera tilts?
They can cause distortion and provide inaccurate measurements (geometric distortion)
What projection preserves scale?
planimetric projections, by equalizing distortions
What is the issue with perspective projections?
Light passes through only a single point causing height displacement and the scale of it depends on the height of the object.
How can we correct geometric distortion?
Orthorectification, which uses a digital elevation model
Give examples of Orthophotos
SWOOP imagery, Google earth, NAIP
What mosaic type is orthorectified?
Controlled mosaics, as they use ground control points.
