Unit 4 Flashcards
What is the trachea
funnels the inhaled air to the lungs and exhaled air out of the body
What is the diaphragm
Faclitates breathing for the lungs
What is liphasep
class of enzymes that break down triglycerides
What is the function of the respiratory system
To bring oxygen into the body
What are the parts of the respiratory system
trechea, lungs, and diaphragm
Which organ produces bile
liver and it is stores in the liver’s gallbladder.
What is the function of the endocrine system
creates and relases horomones
What is the function of the digestive system
breaks down food into usuable nutrients
What are the parts of the digestive system
mouth, esophagoes, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum
What would happen without a negative feedback loop
hormones would be overproduced
In mamalls homeostatis is maintained by
endocrine and nervous system
What do arteries do
take blood away from the heart
What do veins do
take blood to the heart
What are valves purpose
prevent the backword flow of blood
what are capillaries
narrow diameter tubes that can fit red blood cells and are the site for exhange of nutriests waste and oxygen
Explain the process of the cirulatory system
- heart pumps blood that goes to the aortic valve
- blood moves through smaller arteries until it reaches capillaries
- oxygen molecules detach from the blood cells and slip on the wall into body tissue
- veins pump blood back into the heart, through the right ventricle
- pumps into the lung to produce more oxygen
what is the nervous system
coordinates essntial functions in the human body
what is the function of the pancreas
- secretes digestive juices -juices contain high level of biocarbonate which nutreizles acidic chyhme -creates pancreatic juices called ezymes which help break down food in the digestive process
What is thyroid
controls metabolism
What is pineal
produces melatonin which controls the circardian rhythem
What is anterior pituitary
Produes growth hormone which controls cell growth
What is the posterior pituitary
controls water balence
What is transpiration
exhatlation of water vapor through the stomata
what is a negative feedback loop
any homeostatis process that changes the direction of stimulus
Oxygen moves from the lungs into the bloodstream through
small blood vessels called capillaries
What is the main function of the large intestine?
to absorb water
Explain the process of the Respiratory System
Air enters through the nasal cavity (nose). It travels through the pharynx then the larynx, then the trachea then it splits into two bronchi then smaller bronchioles. They become into terminal bronchioles, respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, alveolar sacs, and then into alveolus where the gas exchange between the lung and blood takes place. The trachea brings air in and out so the carbon dioxide will go up the trachea.
What are the protective mechanisms in the respiratory system?
in the nasal cavity, there are hairs and mucus. Lungs contain mucus. Bronchi and bronchioles contain cilia (hair like). This traps bad stuff.
