Sacred site
Place or space people infuse with religious meaning.
Race
Identity then a group of people descended from a common ancestor. A group whose inherited physical characteristics distinguish it from other groups; is a social construct, meaning it is created/invented by society.
Ethnicity
Affiliation or identity within a group of people bound by common ancestry and culture.
Dealing with death
How groups/ethnicities deal uniquely with death and the dead Burial vs. cremation, usually.
Ethnic cleansing
A policy of eliminating a population by on ethic group over the other, making a region mire culturally homogeneous; includes everything from forcible expulsion to genocide.
Apartheid
Government policy of racial segregation once practice by the Republic of South Africa; created “homelands” for non-white South Africans.
Gender
The psychological of being male or female; psychological, social, and cultural aspects of maleness femaleness.
Genocide
Deliberate extermination of a racial or cultural group.
Sequent occupance
Refers to such cultural succession and its lasting imprint proposed by Derwent Whittlesey. The notion that successive societies leave their visible cultural imprints on a place.
Ritual
Repeated, patterned religious act. A ceremonial act; a customary procedure.
Cultural landscape
Fashioning of a natural landscape by a cultural group.
Built environment
The man-made surroundings that provide the setting for human activity.
Religious topynyms
A place named after religious characteristics.
Architecture
Distinctive style of buildings found in a placed, based on materials available, climate conditions, or cultural preferences.
Food preferences
Food associated with different cultures from different places. It may be food preferred, food avoided, or preparation practices.
