Two Party System
Republican and Democrat are the two major parties
Democrat Party
It is represented by a donkey and is more to the LIBERAL side of the political spectrum
Republican Party
It is represented by an elephant and is more to the CONSERVATIVE side of the political spectrum
Nominate
To select a specific person you support to have a certain role, sort of like a suggestion or recommendation
Campaign
The act of trying to persuade people in attempt to win, sort of like a strategy
Political Party
An organized group of people that try to win elections by influencing public policies and appealing to both sides of political spectrum
Ideology
A system of beliefs or ideas
Third Parties
The are small political parties that reflect liberal and conservative views and introduce new issues
Political Platform
Where political parties state their beliefs
Election
When people vote for a leader of some sort, like a ballet or a poll
Political Spectrum
A visual way of comparing political parties in liberal and conservative view
Public Policies
The government’s response to an issue
Conservative
Ideology that is more traditional and is to the right side of the political spectrum (More Republican)
Liberal
Ideology that is more open minded and is to the left side of the political spectrum
(More Democratic)
Moderate
Ideology that is located in the middle of the political spectrum that is undecided and neither liberal or conservative
Media
Methods of communicating information, entertainment or other messages
Editorial
A newspaper article written by or on behalf of an editor that gives an opinion on a topical issue
Op-Ed
A written piece that expresses the opinion of an author usually not affiliated with the publication’s editorial board
Bias
Is unfair favoritism sort of like an opinion that is clearly on a specific side, sort of like preference
PACs
Political Actions Committees provide money for political campaigns
Super PACs
Are organizations that can raise unlimited funds from individuals, corporations, and other groups to support or defeat a political candidate
Citizen United v. Federal Election Commission
Since limits have been placed on the amount people can contribute to political campaigns, but you can donate unlimited amounts to PACs so this resulted in Citizen United v. Federal Election Commission
15th Amendment
It denied the government’s ability to deny people from voting because of race
19th Amendment
It allowed men and women to have equal voting rights
