Unit 3 - Upper Limb Flashcards
What bones articulate to make up the acromioclavicular joint?
The clavicle (acromial end) and the scapula.
What sections on the posterior scapula are being separated by the spine of the scapula?
The supraspinous scapula and infraspinous fossa.
What nerve travels through the surpascapular notch?
Suprascapular nerve.
What joint of the upper limb is not considered a real joint? Why?
The scapulothoratic joint. It’s not a real joint because it doesn’t articulate with any bones, it only glides along the thorax.
What two ligaments help stabilize the sternoclavicular joint to the manubrium?
The stereoclavicular ligament and the costoclavicular ligament.
What is the function of the intertubercular groove?
The intertubercular groove is a channel for a branch off of the biceps brachii muscle (long head).
What is the origin and insertion of the deltoid muscle?
Origin - pectoral gridle
Insertion - deltoid tuberosity
What nerve innervates the deltoid muscle?
The axillary nerve.
What is the origin and insertion of the pectoralis major muscle?
Origin - clavicle/sternum/ribs
Insertion - intertubercular groove (laterally)
What nerve innervates the pectoralis major muscle?
Medial and lateral pectoral nerves.
What is the origin and insertion of the pectoralis minor muscle?
Origin - ribs 3-5
Insertion - coracoid process
What is the origin and insertion for the subclavius muscle?
Origin - rib 1/thorax
Insertion - coracoid process
What nerve innervates the pectoralis minor muscle?
Medial and lateral pectoralis nerves.
What nerve innervates the subclavius muscle?
nerve to subclavius.
What is the origin and insertion of the serrates anterior muscle?
Origin - lateral aspects of ribs
Insertion - medial border of scapula
