What does the executive do?
-government
- administers the law
- governs
- prime minister, monarch, central and local government
Who is the legislative?
-parliament
Who is the judiciary?
-courts
What is the max number of ministers allowed including the pm?
109 payed ministers there can be more but they would have to be unpaid
What makes the pm powerful?
- large government majority
- the role of pm is flexible (not clearly defined in legislation) which gives them more dominance
Explain the executive and changing the law within parliament
- most legislation is introduced to parliament by the executive
What is delegated legislation?
- secondary legislation
- allows government to change law without pushing a new act of parliament
What are royal prerogative powers?
- in theory powers vested in the monarch but in practice executed by the executive (pm)
What are the examples of prerogative powers influenced by conventions?
1) royal assent
2) appointment of pm
3) dissolution of parliament
4) awarding honours (monarch has no say, acts on advice of ministers)
5) commander in chief of armed forces
