Corpus Christi de la Ysleta was the first mission in Texas and the Spaniards established it.

It is located near present-day El Paso.
What happened to mission San Saba?
Native Americans attacked this mission and burnt it to the ground. This killed two out of three missionaries that were at this mission. This mission was never rebuilt.

They didn’t like the Spanish trying to change their ways of life (culture).

The first recommendation was that the Spanish should abandon all missions and presidios except those at La Bahia and San Antonio. He said this because these two missions were most successful.

San Antonio should replace Los Adaes as the capital of Texas, was the second recommendation. He said this because San Antonio was more successful than Los Adaes.

Rubi’s third recommendation was that the Spanish population in East Texas should be moved to San Antonio to strengthen the defenses of the settlements and missions there. He said this because it is harder to attack people when they are all defending one place, along with trying to protect the Spanish people.

They tried to take land, specifically trying to free Texas, or maybe all of Mexico from Spain.

Filibusters tried to get Anglos into Texas.

They are US citizens.

Spanish thought that the filibusters were spies trying to take over their land.

He started the revolt against Spanish rule.
He led the first army against them, when he was captured and killed.
What happened during the Battle of Medina?
It lasted four hours and in the end the Spanish ended up winning. It killed 1,000 rebels, crushing the revolt against Spanish rule.
What odd the Guiterrez-Magee expedition do?
They took over for Father Hidalgo after his death. They got some support from the US building up an army against Spanish rule from US citizens. They built up this army in Louisiana.

He shipwrecked in Matagorda Bay.
Who killed LaSalle?
LaSalle was killed by his own men.
What fort did LaSalle establish?
LaSalle established Fort St Louis.
Why did the Spanish make missions in East Texas?
The Spanish wanted to get land here before the French to keep the French out.

The French had more influence over the Native Americans because they were nicer to them.

They were treated very poorly.

The Spanish tricked them by saying they would have good protection/safety and always be guaranteed food. The Spanish bribes the Native Americans with gifts.
