What is Dementia?
Dementia is not a specific disease, but a term used to describe over 100 conditions that are characterised by progressive and irreversible loss of brain function.
Why is Dementia an NHPA?
- In 2010, dementia was the third most common cause of death
- Dementia accounts for 6 per cent of all deaths nationally and contributes significantly to morbidity rates
