Feel they have lost all hope of having a normal child

Feel guilty for their child being the way he is & blame themselves or each other
ANXIETY
Worry about the child’s wellbeing & future
RESENTMENT
Think that their problem is unique & hate ‘normal’ families for being able to live ‘normal’ lives
Hate the fact that child affects their social life -> blame child
DENIAL
Deny that their child has an impairment
Believe it will resolve itself
Sometimes can help be ignoring it
