Q

What are some uses of LANs?

A

To allow a single site to use there own cable system to connect to the internet.

17
Q

Who may use LANs?

A

They may be used by Schools, hotels and business

18
Q

What is a topology?

A

The way how systems are connected together.

19
Q

What are the main topologies?

A

Star and mesh.

20
Q

Briefly describe a star topology.

A

The server is connected to switch/hub. The switch/hub then connect directly to the computers making the switch/hub the centre man.

21
Q

What are some benefits of a star topology?

A

1.Fast data transfer as there is a personal connection between the node and the computer. (not shared)
2.If one cable fails the other computers are not affected.

22
Q

What are some disadvantages of a star topology?

A

1.It will require additional hardware. (Central switch and network cables)
2.If the central node fails the whole system will go down.
