A fertile region in Asia that includes the region of Mesopotamia.
Fertile Crescent
The region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers; birthplace of the Sumerian and Babylonian civilizations.
Mesopotamia
A culture that has developed system of government, religion and learning.
Civilization
Light soil in rivers that is moisture retentive soil type with a high fertility.
Slit
A legacy that consists of canals, artificial lakes and gates. It allowed farmers to expand their fields and bring water to their crops.
Irrigation
An independent, self governing city and the lands/villages around it.
City State
To believe in many gods and goddesses.
Polytheistic
A religious temple in Mesopotamia
Ziggurat
C. 2300 B.C. united Sumer creating the 1st Empire.
He became the 1st emperor & expanded his empire north.
Sargon
A written set of laws that apply to everyone under a government.
Code of Law
King of the Babylonian empire; creator of the Code of Hammurabi.
Hammurabi
The way people manage money and resources for the production of goods and services.
Economy
(Wedge-shaped) - first form of writing EVER!
Cuneiform
Writers or record keepers.
Scribe
The governing body in charge of a certain people group (usually having to do with laws).
