Protects children and vulnerable adults from maltreatment.
Prevents impairment of children and vulnerable adults’ health and development.
Ensures children grow up in a safe and effective environment.

What is the Disclosure and Barring Service?
Processing requests for criminal records by checking police records and barred list.
Deciding whether it is appropriate for a person to be placed on or removed from barred list.
Placing people on children’s barred list.
Placing people of adults’ barred list.
What are the 3 types of DBS checks?
Standard
Enhanced
Enhanced with list checks
What is a Standard DBS check?
Looking for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings.
What is an Enhanced DBS check?
Same as Standard but with other relevant information held by police. This could be accusations made or charges dropped etc.
What is an Enhanced DBS check with list?
Same as Enhanced but with checks to see if a person is on a barred list for adults or children.
