Q

What are the requirements for a wave to be refracted?

A

A wave is only refracted if it changes direction at the boundary to the material it enters.

Q

What is the method for drawing a refracted ray diagram?

A
  1. Draw the boundary line between your two materials.
  2. Add a normal.
  3. Draw an incident ray that meets the normal at the boundary line.
  4. Measure the angle of incidence.
  5. Draw the refracted ray. If the material gets denser, bend it towards the normal. If the material gets less dense, bend it away from the normal.
  6. Draw the angle of refraction.
