Relocation diffusion
When people move from their original location to another and bring their innovations with them. Immigration from country to country, city to city, etc. As they relocate to a new location, they bring their ideas, and cultural traditions such as food, music, and more.
Expansion diffusion
A type of cultural diffusion that occurs when cultural aspects or values ** spread beyond their host cultures while remaining strong among the host culture.**
Contagious diffusion
- The distance-controlled spreading of an idea through a local population by contact from person to person.
- Things like trends, videos, etc.
Hierarchical diffusion
- When influential structures in society encourage the adoption of certain new cultures or cultural aspects
- Spread from social classes top to bottom
Stimulus diffusion
- When cultural ideas originating from a culture are adapted and changed by other cultures while maintaining the basic principles of the original ideas
- Ex: Mcdonalds in other countries changing menu items to fit in
Maladaptive diffusion
- When Something from one place/culture spreads, but doesn’t fit in/isn’t relevant anywhere else
- Ex. Disneyland in Europe

- A group of different languages that all descend from a particular common language
- Not mutually understandable
- Biggest

- Groups of languages within a language family
- Not mutually understandable

Language Branch
- Small group of languages within a language group
- Mostly mutually understandable
Language
- A system of communication used by a particular country or community.
Dialect
- Different versions of one language, same language bit both with some different words, or slang
- Ex. Difference of dialect between the englich America speaks vs. the Uk or Australia
- Distinct to a certain reigon
Accent
- Non standard pronunciation of language by a a non native speaker
- Specific to a certain reigon
Isogloss
An area of distinct word usage or pronunciation that can be defined as a distinct region with boundaries.
Lingua franca
- A language mutually understood and commonly used in trade by people who have different native languages.
Creolized language
- A process in which 2 languages blend together as people learn a new lanuguage
