A

Explain what is meant by the direction of light.

A

The direction of light refers to where the light is coming from and relation to the subject and your camera. When there’s a single light source, the direction is clearly defined and obvious. When there are multiple sources, Or when the light is diffused, (as on a cloudy day) That direction is less evident or even absent. The direction of light controls the overall look of the subject.

A

Light varies in color depending upon It’s source and the substances through which passes. Sunlight is actually a different color than incandescent lighting, and the color of sunlight it self varies with atmospheric conditions and time of day.

Explain what is meant by the quality of light.

A

The quality of light is it amount of diffusion. It can be “hard” and full of contrast, producing dark shadows with sharply defined edges, or it can be “soft” And diffused, resulting in soft or no shadows. For example, direct sunlight on a cloudless day is hard. Light and an overcast day is soft and diffused.
