Unit 3 Forces Flashcards
Newtons first law
An object in motion stays in motion at a constant velocity, and an object at rest stays at rest, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force
Inertia (Newtons First Law)
An objects resistance to change its motion
Force
An interaction that causes an objects motion to change
Gravity (Fg)
Force that pulls things toward the center of the earth
Friction (Ff)
Force that opposes the motion of an object that’s rolling or sliding on a surface
Air resistance (Fa)
Force that opposes the motion of an object
Applied Force (FA)
Force exerted by a person or another object
Normal Force (Fn)
Supporting force exerted on an object in contact with a surface
Net Force (Fnet)
The combination of all forces on an object
Newtons second law
The acceleration of an object depends on its mass and the force acting on it
Acceleration Due to Gravity
9.81 m/s2
Newtons second law
F=ma
Newtons third law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
