Unit 3 Flashcards
What is Slope?
The Rate of change (scale factor, unit rate)
How do you find slope (hint: the sure way to never get it wrong)
Change in y. y-y
—————. —— (Use coordinate pairs)
Change in x. x-x
What are the four types of slope and how do you identify them?
Positive slope: Increases from left to right Negative slope: Decreases from right to left Zero slope: Horizontal line (function) Undefined slope: Vertical line (not a function)
How do you dilate two similar triangles? (What is the equation and how do you solve?)
X,y——-> (SFx, SFy)
You multiply the original coordinate pairs by the scale factor, or slope.
what is a unit rate?
A rate simplified, so its a whole number. EX: (r) 110/2 (ur) 55/1
What is the equation for a unit rate?
Y=mx
If a graph has a line through the origin is it P or NON P
Proportional
What is the equation for a proportional relationship
Y=mx
What does a table look like with proportional relationships?
A constant ration (6,12,18)
Do these words apply to P or NON P realtionships:
Per, each, for every
Proportional
Do you add and subtract in P or NON P relationships
Non proportional; you multiply and divide for proportional relationships
(y over x)
What is the equation for non proportional relationships?
Y= Mx+b
The b, or y intercept throws the proportion off
What is a function?
A relationship where every input has one output
How can you tell if a graph is a function?
If it passes the vertical line test (one point on each line)
What’s the most important thing to remember about functions?
X CANT REPEATTTTTTT!!!!!
