Unit 3 Flashcards
What is the molecular formula of a compound?
The number and type of different atoms in one molecule
What is the empirical formula of a compound?
The simplest whole number ratio of the different atoms or ions in a compound
What is the mole? (mol)
The unit of amount of substance. One mole contains 6.02 x 10^23 particles (atoms, ions, molecules). That number is the Avogadro constant
How to find number of moles?
mass (g) OR / molar mass (mass number/s)
What is the molar gas volume?
24dm^3 - at room temperature and pressure r.t.p
How many cm^3 in a dm?
1000cm^3 = 1dm
What is concentration?
Measure of the amount of solute dissolved in a solvent.
What is the formula to find concentration?
mass(g) OR moles / volume (dm^3)
What does acid + alkali result in?
Salt + water
What is the formula to find percentage yield?
(Actual/theoretical) x 100
What is a limiting reactant?
The reactant that gets used up fully (in moles). The other left over is the excess.
