what are the 3 types of anxiety
- Signal anxiety

what is signal anxiety?
a learned response to an anticipated event (ex: usually calm student who becomes nauseous during test time)
what is anxiety state ?
coping abilities become overwhelmed and emotional control is lost
what is anxiety trait ?
learned component of the personality, person who reacts with anxiety in low stress situations (ex: teenager gives reason for behavior even when not requested)
what are some physical signs of anxiety?
- muscle tension
- fidgeting
- headache
-problems with sleep - fight or flight reaction
what is a crisis ?
ability to cope with anxiety is overwhelmed
is anxiety contagious
yes, important for caregivers to recognize and cope effectively with own anxieties
how does biological model relate to anxiety
an attempt to find a biological or physical basis for anxiety like neurotransmitters and fight or flight response
how does psychodyamic model relate to anxiety
conflict within personality

how does behavioral model relate to anxiety
a learned response, linking anxiety from one situation to another
what is separation anxiety disorder
inappropriately fearful and anxious when separated from person or object
what is generalized anxiety disorder
anxiety is broad, long-lasting and excessive
- worried and anxious more often than not
what are the two types of panic disorders
- those associated with agoraphobia (anxiety about the possible situations in which a panic attack can occur)
- those not associated with agoraphobia
what are some therapeutic interventions for managing anxiety
- prevention is most effective way to cope
- mental health therapies and meds are used a lot as tx
- hx and physical exam are performed
- anxiety may be tx with meds like benzos, anti-depressants, anti-histamines, propranolol, and anxiolytics
