A

Britons main supplier was OPEC based in the Middle East in 1973 , a war broke out between Israel and neighbouring Middle Eastern countries and Britain’s perceived support for isreal caused the oil companies to reduce their supply and increase prices

Labour weaknesses with Europe

A

Europe was an issue that divided labour. Wilson was ambivalent but some members of labour were pro europe such as George brown and jenkins and some were anti Europe like castle and foot , this notably caused tensions when applying to the EEC but got vetoed anyway in 1968

-heath and senior conservatives met at selsdon park to agree on policy programme which included tax reform better law and order cuts to public spending and to end public subsidy to lame duck industries with some similar economic ideas. This wasn’t an all out rejection to the post war consensus
