Overpopulation
The number of people exceeds the resources available in an area.
Carrying Capacity
The largest population that a particular environment can support.
Zero Population Growth
ZPG
A decline in the fertility rate where the CBR is equal to the CDR, resulting in zero growth and ultimately and negative growth. Happens to countries and last stages of DTM.
S curve/J curve
S - refers to part of population curve where the population starts to stabilize
J - A growth curve that depicts exponential growth; call a J curve because of its shape.
Population Policy
A national plan for population change (either to lower or increase birth rates).
Malthusian
The belief that the population is growing faster than the resources needed to sustain it.
Cornucopian
Pop growth provides resource for innovation to solve problems of resource scarcity.
Neo-Malthusian
Belief that in order to meet the growing population, controls have to be put in plus, such as birth control. Gained popularity especially after WWII Baby Boom.
