Definite shape and volume
Atom
Smallest unit of matter
Proton
Positively charged found in nucleus
Neutron
Neutrally charged found in nucleus
Electron
Negatively charged found in electron cloud
Ion
Element that has lost or gained an electron
Ionic bond
One atom donates an electron to another electron not very strong
Covalent bond
Two or more atoms share electrons very strong
Compound
Two or more atoms held together with ionic bonds
Molecule
Two or more atoms held together with a covalent bond
Chemical formula
a mathematical relationship or rule expressed in symbols.
Chemical equation
A chemical equation is symbolic representation of a chemical reaction where the reactant entities are given on the left hand side and the product entities on the right hand side
pH
Is a scale that goes from 1-14 1-7 is acidic 7-14 is bases and 7 is neutral
Synthesis reaction
In chemistry, chemical synthesis is purposeful execution of chemical reactions to get a product, or several products. This happens by physical and chemical manipulations usually involving one or more reactions
Decomposition reaction
separation of a substance into two or more substances that may differ from each other and from the original substance
Exchange reaction
Reaction in which two atoms or ions exchange places either in two different molecules or in the same molecule.
Law of conservation of mass
Mass can not be created nor destroyed
Law of conservation of energy
Energy can not be created nor destroyed
Acid
Any solution that contains more hydrogen atoms then hydroxide ions
Base
Any solution that contains more hydroxide ions than hydrogen ions
Element
a part or aspect of something abstract, esp. one that is essential or characteristic.
Heterogeneous
A mixture that us not evenly mixed
