Unit 2 - Two Dimensional Motion Flashcards
1
Q
Multiple Directions - Displacement
Scale Diagrams
A
Scale Diagrams
- A compass rose is required
- A scale is required (Ex., 5 cm = 5 m)
- The values of the drawing must match up with the question and the scale
- Measure the length of the hypotenuse – displacement
2
Q
Multiple Directions - Displacement
Algebraically
A
- Draw a Cartesian plane
- Add the vectors in as separate motions, forming a triangle
- Add up the x’s and y’s using cos or sin
- Form a triangle and find the hypotenuse – displacement
3
Q
How can one find, for example, a “due north” path in a relative motion question?
A
Draw the triangle as usual. If the object needs to go “due north” for example, “flip and shuffle”.
4
Q
Straight down
A
- No ‘x’
- Viy = 0
- ay = 9.8 m/s2
5
Q
Straight up
A
- No ‘x’
- Vfy = 0
- ay = -9.8 m/s2
6
Q
No ‘straight’ direction
A
- Vx = Vi and Vf
- ay = -9.8 m/s2
- If given angle, use it to find Vx and Viy! (cos and sin)
- Vfy = 0 (at top only)
- Past the initial triangle at the x-axis, Vf = Vi
