What are rays of ejecta?
Splattered material from collisions
How are craters formed?
Formed by meteor impacts
What does it mean for the moon and the earth to be “tidally locked”?
The moon rotates in the same time it takes to orbit the earth
How long does it take for the moon to orbit on its axis?
27.3 days
What percentage of the moon can you see due to libration?
59 percent
What is the effect and cause of SEEING CONDITIONS?
Effect: The stars “twinkle”
Cause: Convection currents in the atmosphere
What is the cause and effect of LOCAL GLARE
Effect: Can’t see faint stars because the retina is not allowed to increase sensitivity
Cause: Glare from stadium lights
What is the effect and cause of SKYGLOW?
Effect: Can’t see faint stars
Cause: There is reduced contrast between the sky and the stars
What is the effect and cause of SKY COLOUR?
Effect: Can’t see faint stars
Cause: Blue light is scattered so there is smaller contrast between the sky and the stars
