Unit 2 Test Flashcards
Give a summary of the contemporary acupuncture strategies for the treatment of an acute musculoskeletal extremity injury in the first 24 to 74 hours?
- Upper extremity systemic points- ear points/GV-26/GV20, HT-3/HT-7/PC-6, GB-34@2-4Hz, LI-4. Lower LR-3
- Needles distal and or proximal to the injury on neurologically relevant nerves
- Needles on homologous Area on contralateral limb
- Paravertebral input at neurologically relevant segments
- Needles surrounding the injured tissue
What are the goals of an acupuncture treatment in the first 24-72 hours of an acute musculoskeletal problem? Give 4-6 examples
To decrease excessive sympathetic activity(central, regional, local). To decrease no set nociceptive activity from injured area, to decrease spinal processing of those nociceptive signals, same centrally, to facilitate tissue healing, to modulate Central pain experience
Name at least two direct techniques with acupuncture needles to treat triggerpoints
- One needle deep (plus or minus pecking)
- two needle technique
- in-line technique
- Osteopuncture, periosteal pecking
Name at least three acupuncture points associated with the supraspinatus muscle?
SI-12, SI-13, LI-16, LU-2
Name at least three acupuncture points associated with infraspinatus muscle?
SI-10, SI-11, LU-2
Give at least one example of acupuncture point combinations with electricals connections for local inputs in the treatment of shoulder problems?

LI-15/TH-14 ~ LI-16/SI-12
LU-2 ~ LI-16
Name at least four of seven acupuncture points associated with the radial nerve that can be stimulated as part of the lateral epicondylar pain treatment?

Name at least four of seven possible acupuncture points associated with the median nerve?
HT-3, MH-3, MH-4, MH-5, MH-6, MH-7
Name to neuropeptides secreted by the CNS in response to electroacupuncture stimulation at low frequencies(2-4Hz)or high frequencies(100Hz)?
Endomorphin, beta–endorphin, dynorphin, enkephalins
