Was the new deal positive or negative for America?
Positive:
- allowed labor unions to thrive
- created millions of employment opportunities
- helped to support older people
- gave new communities access to electricity
Negative:
- was racially discriminatory
- some argued that FDR was overstepping his power
Why did the US get involved in the growing global conflicts?
- Cash and Carry policy: we give you weapons if you pay in cash and transport on your own
- Boost the economy/repair damages from the Great Depression
- Protect Democracy/ the 4 Freedoms
Did our actions at home contradict or support our national freedoms?
Contradict:
- Japanese Internment: violated 5th amendment rights of Japanese Americans
- Propaganda specifically: instilled fear in Americans, violations of freedom from want
Support:
- Protect free speech, trying to create a sense of protection, protect democracy
