Louisiana Purchase
The buying of the land of louisiana, which was half the size of the U.S., for 15 million dollars. Thomas Jefferson bought it while he was president from France. He sent Lewis and Clark went on an expedition for 2 years to explore the west part of the land.
Jay’s Treaty (1795)
Agreement between England and the U.S. in 1794 by which limited trade relations were established. England agreed to give up its forts in the northwestern frontier and a joint commission was set up to settle border disputes.
The French Revolution
an uprising in France against the monarchy from 1789 to 1799 which resulted in the establishment of France as a republic.
Started in France, the u.s is trying to stay neutral. By the end, france and britain are irritated with the u.s and said they wont trade with them and give them supplies anymore
Pinckney’s Treaty (1795)
agreement between Spain and the United States, fixing the southern boundary of the United States; resolved territorial disputes between the two countries and granted American ships the right to free navigation of the Mississippi River as well as duty-free transport through the port of New Orleans
War of 1812
Causes - trade, impressment, Native American Involvement, and expansionism.
During - 1812-1815
Results - two centuries of peace between both countries. All of the causes for the war had disappeared with the end of the Napoleonic Wars between Britain and France.
Monroe Doctrine
President James Monroe issued the policy in 1823. It stated that North and South America were no longer open to colonization. It also declared that the United States would not allow European countries to interfere with independent governments in the Americas.
Adams-Onis Treaty (1819)
a treaty between the United States and Spain in 1819 that ceded Florida to the U.S. and defined the boundary between the U.S. and New Spain.

The Federalists believed that American foreign policy should favor British interests, while the Democratic-Republicans wanted to strengthen ties with the French. … The Democratic-Republicans believed in protecting the interests of the working classes—merchants, farmers, and laborers.

Hamilton’s Economic Plan
called for the government to repay both federal and state debts. He wanted the government to buy up all the bonds issued by both the national and state government before 1789. He then planned to issue new bonds to pay off the old debts.
