Unit 2 - Solutions And Solubility Flashcards

1
Q

What is a Solvent/solute/solution

A

Solvent = the substance that dissolves the other e.g. water/H2O

Solute= the substance that gets dissolved
E.g. salt

Solution = The combined mixture of the solvent(s) and solute(s)
e.g. H2O + NaCl

Q

What is polarity?

A

Polarity refers to the way molecules bond to eachother.

E.g. water has a high polarity compared to oil that has a low polarity
