What does it mean by health?
Health is a state of physical, mental and social well-being, not just the absence of disease or infirmity.
What does it mean by health and social care?
The organized provision of medical care to individuals or a community is healthcare.
Providing assistance with: the activities of daily living, maintaining independence and social interaction.
What is the difference between roles and responsibilities?
Responsibilities refer to the duties and tasks within particular roles.
Roles, however, refer to a person’s position/name of their job on a team.
What does policies mean?
Policies - detailed descriptions of the approach, and often the specific procedures that should be followed, in caring for clients.
What does procedures mean?
Procedures- written instructions that outline the expected and required routines that care staff must follow in specific situations, for example reporting accidents or administering medicines, in order to implement agreed policies.
What is the role of a health visitor?
Health visitors are qualified and registered nurses or midwives working with families to give pre-school-age children the best possible start in life. Also work with deprived, at risk, homeless.
What is discrimination?
The practice of unfairly treating a person or a group of people differently from other people or group of people.
What is unfair discrimination?
When someone is rude, hostile or offensive because they see them as being different.
What is direct discrimination?
When someone may appear to be supportive and friendly towards someone but may show disrespect for their ideas in a jokey way
What is indirect discrimination?
When a decision is made in a person’s favour because there is something different about them.
What is positive discrimination?
When a person is treated unfairly compared to someone else.
What does it mean by codes of practice in health and social care settings?
These are principles of good practice in care, established by the Care Sector Consortium.
What does GMC stand for?
General Medical Council - Doctors.
What does NMC stand for?
Nursing and Midwifery Council - Nurses and Midwives.
What does HCPC stand for?
Health and Care Professions Council - Social workers, physios, occupational therapists, speech therapists, paramedics etc.
