Who were the Phoenicians? What bigger group were they part of?
They were part of the Canaanites. They were pastors and merchants and shipbuilders.
Where did the Phoenicians live? What time period?
They lived in the northern part of Canaan. They lived in 1830-500’s B.C.
Who were the Canaanites? What other groups were part of Canaan?
The Canaanites were hearders, traders, shipbuilders. The philistines and Hebrews were part of the Canaanites.

What types of jobs did people in Canaan have? Did anything influence the type of jobs people had?
They were hearders, traders, shipbuilders. They lived in eastern mediteranian cost. They were between Egypt and Syria. trades, gods, information and knowledge were all influences.
What caused the Phoenicians to turn to the sea to make a living?
There wasn’t enough land to grow good an near Phoenicia there was allot of cedar trees so they were able to build ships.
How did trade start and grow for the Phoenicians?
They started as costal traders. But became widely traders merchant shippers. They began to trade cedar logs, cloth, glass, rinkets,and purfume for gold and other metals. They used sun and stars to navigate.
Why did Phoenicia never become a united country?
Mountains seep rated groups. Try didn’t get along, argued about trade, they were jealous.
What were Phoenician cities like? Describe the structure and organization
They had stone walls for protection, family owned shops merchants and artisans. They had narrow streets surrounding their cities. City-states. Buildings were close together. Port was centre of activity. Kings eventually their power with rich merchants.
What is the Phoenician legend that tells how the Phoenicians discovered dye?
A couple was walking down the shore with their dog and the dog picked up a shellfish turned into a shade of purple. In order for her to marry him she demanded a wedding dress that same colour.
Summarize Phoenician religion.
Gods were closely tied to nature. Their god called Baal ( was the main god) their temples had a holy of hollies. Rey worshiped hills. Under trees before the temples. Sacrificed wine purfume animals and humans. They believed in life after death.
What did trade allow the Phoenicians to also spread?
Trade allowed them to spread the alphabet and intelligence. And their culture and religion.
