Unit 2 -- Parts of a Plant Flashcards
Learn the Parts of a Plant
What is a flower?
A flower is the part of a plant makes pollen.
Some flowers make fruit. Pollen is transferred by wind and insects to other flowers. This is called pollination.
What is pollination?
Pollination is when pollen is moved from flower to flower by the wind or by insects.
What is chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll is a green chemical in plants.
Chlorophyll takes in light from the sun and turns it into energy and sugar to feed the plants. This process is called photosynthesis.
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is the process when chlorophyll takes in light from the sun and turns it into energy and sugar to feed the plant.
What are leaves?
Leaves are the wide, green part of plants where their food is made. They are wide so chlorophyll can take in more light.
What are plant cells?
Plant cells are the smallest part of the plant. They contain chlorophyll which gives the plant green color.
What is the stem?
The stem supports the plant so it can stand upright. It has many thin tubes that carry water, mineral and food from the roots up to the rest of the plant.
What are roots?
The roots are the part of the plant that is (almost always) underground.
Roots soak up water, vitamins and minerals from the soil so that a plant has plenty of nutrients.
Roots also help anchor plants in the soil so they don’t fall over.
What does a plant need to survive?
