how do the sperm leave the testes?
through the sperm duct
what is produced by interstitial cells?
Testosterone
where are the interstitial cells found?
the tissue between the seminiferous tubules and passes directly into the blood stream
what do sperm require for efficient motility?
A fluid medium and a source of energy
what secretes fluids that maintain the mobility and viability of the sperm ?
The prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
what produces and where are female gametes produced?
Are produced from germline cells in the ovaries
what is each ovum surrounded by and what is its purpose?
Each ovum is surrounded by a follicle that protects the developing ovum and secretes hormones
What happens to the follicle after ovulation?
the follicle develops into a corpus luteum then secretes progesterone which causes changes in the uterus to make it more suitable for implantation
what happens during fertilisation?
the nucleus of a sperm fuses with the nucleus of an ovum to form a zygote.
What does ovulation result in?
a mature ova being released into the oviduct
