Define Patriarchs
Patriarchs play important roles in the early history or mythology of a religious group and are highly regarded for their wisdom, leadership, or spiritual significance. Examples of patriarchs can be found in various religious traditions, such as Abraham in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Define Temple
A temple is a sacred or holy place of worship and spiritual significance. Temples are central to various religions including christianity, hinduism, islam, buddism, etc.
Define Kashruth
Kashruth is a set of dietary laws for the Jewish community which are considered kosher [fit or proper]. These rules govern various aspects of food preparation, including the types of animals that can be eaten, the method of slaughter, and the separation of dairy and meat products, among other guidelines.
Define Talmud
The Talmud is a central and authoritative text in the Jewish religion. It consists of a collection of teachings, discussions, and commentaries on various aspects of Jewish law, ethics, customs, and traditions.
Define Torah
The Torah is the central and most important religious text in Judaism. It consists of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible (also known as the Old Testament in Christianity), namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
Moses Ben Maimonides
Maimonides is known as the “second moses”. He is referred to as the second Moses because he provided clarity and a reformed sense of purpose to Judaism, while emphsizing and honouring the power of God. He’s know for his great accomplisments.
Define passover
Passover is a Jewish holiday and festival that commemorates the biblical story of the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. It typically involves a special meal called the Seder, during which various symbolic foods and rituals are observed.
Moses
Moses is a significant figure in several Abrahamic religions, including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. He is considered a prophet, leader, and lawgiver in these tradition
What events happened in 1948
The birth of Israel, and the holocaust. In 1948 the state of Israel was reborn out of Palestine. The holocaust was an event that slaughtered over 6 million Jews.
what happened in 70CE
The siege of Jerusalem was left to Titus who captured the city of Jerusalem in 70CE and destroyed the temple and much of the city following the 6 month siege.
Define synagogue
A synagogue is a place of worship and community gathering for Jewish people. It serves as a centre for religious ceremonies, prayer, and the study of Jewish scriptures, such as the Torah.
define judges
Judges led the Israelites. Judges were like tribal leaders or chieftains who led the people through crisis.
Yom Kippur
Yom kippur is the holiest day in Judaism. It is a solemn and sacred occasion marked by fasting, prayer, and repentance. On this day, Jewish people seek forgiveness for their sins and reflect on their actions over the past year, with the aim of reconciling with God and fellow human beings. It usually lasts 25 hours and Jews tend to refrain from eating and drinking.
Nabka
Nakba is the Arabic word for “Disaster”, or “Catastrophe”. This word refers to the Palestine catastrophe of 1948 and the displacement of a majority of indigenous Palestine Arabs, both Christian and Muslim from their homes.
