Case Study:
Sally is on a 6 week placement in a residential nursing home. She is on duty at reception on her own when she receives a phone call from someone who says he is the son of one of the residents. He asks Sally for information about the patient.
-How should Sally respond?
- Tell him it’s nursing code policy not to give out information over the phone regardless who he is.
- Ask him to call back in 30 minutes when a member of staff will be able to deal with his request.
- Tell him she is only on a placement and is not authorised to give out information about residents over the phone.
