Unit 2 flashcards
What are the 4 phases of the cell cycle?
G1, S, G2, Mitosis
What is the G0 phase?
The phase where some cells dont grow and divide so they stay here
What do cells spend most of their life in?
Interphase
What are the 4 stages of mitosis?
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
What 2 main stages does cell division occur in?
Mitosis, Cytokinesis
Why do cells have to divide?
To move things across the cell membrane and to avoid DNA overload
How many chromosomes are in the human body?
46
what is the G1 phase?
where cells are growing and making proteins
What is the G2 phase?
where the cell prepares for mitotic division
What is the S phase?
Where DNA replication occurs
what is prophase?
when chromosomes become visible and are attatched to spindle fibers
What is metaphase?
when chromosomes line up across the middle of the cell
What is anaphase?
when chromosomes seperate and move to opposite ends of the cell
What is telophase?
when the chromsomes spread of and 2 daughter cells are formed
What causes cancer?
Uncontrollable growth of cells that do not listen to the cyclins
