Unit 2- Connectivity Flashcards
State two benefits of a family setting up a home network [2].
[1] Sharing files on each other’s computers.
[1] Backing up data to another computer.
[1] Sharing a printer.
[1] Sharing an internet connection.
Define ‘bandwidth’.
The number of bits that can go through a network connection in 1 second —> bits per second (bps).
Describe the process of encryption.
Encryption scrambles data so that only computers with the right key can decipher and read it.
What is the most common form of protection for wireless networks?
WEP
Define ‘latency’.
The time between one bit leaving one device and arriving at another in one milliseconds —> (ms).
A high bandwidth =
= more bits transferred per second.
A high latency =
= a short amount of time for the bits to be transferred per millisecond.
A low bandwidth =
= less bits transferred per second.
A low latency =
= a high amount of time for the bits to be transferred per millisecond.
