What is Communication?
- Natural Activity of all humans to communicate opinions, feelings, information ideas, to others through words, whether written or spoken, body language or signs
- Mankind’s ability to communicate across barriers and beyond boundaries
- Foster quick and effective communication
- Interchange of thought or information between two or more persons to bring about mutual understanding and desired action
- Communication is any behavior that results in an exchange of meaning.
- Communication is the process by which information is transmitted between individuals and organizations so that an understanding response result

- Fostering understanding and goodwill among different cultures

- Made possible by the emerging information technologies that serve as connecting tools in a diverse cultural sphere hence, fast and efficient communication around the world

PROCESS
- communication constantly moves and changes. It does not stand still.
MEANING
- involves the thoughts, ideas, and understandings shared by communicators.
SYMBOLIC
- rely on words and nonverbal behaviors to communicate meaning and feelings. it is anything that stands for another

What is communication’s etymology? (origin of the word)
Derived from the Latin word, ‘communicare’, means to impart or participate or to transmit. (IPT)
communicare’ is derived from the root ‘communis’, means to make common or to share.

Internal Communication
- people within the organization communicate with each other
External Communication
- people in the organization communicate with people outside of the organization

What is a Sender?
- The source of information or message.
- Sends the message
- Uses symbols to convey message and produces the required response
What is a Message?
- Stimulus or meaning produced by the source for the receiver or audience
What is Encoding?
- Process of converting the message into words, actions,or other forms
- Process of turning thoughts into communication.
What is a Channel?
- medium or the means, in which the encoded message is conveyed.
ex. personal, or non-personal, verbal or non-verbal. - a message or messages travel between source and receiver
What is a Receiver?
- Recipient of the message
- Refers to a person for whom the message is intended/ aimed/ targeted (IAT)
What is Decoding?
- Process of interpreting the encoded message
What is Feedback?
- Reactions, responses, or information provided by the receiver.
- Main component of the communication process, permits the sender to analyze the efficacy of the message.
- Helps the sender in confirming the correct interpretation of the message by the decoder.
What is Context?
- Environment where communication takes place.
