What were causes of the Berlin crisis in 1961?
-west Berlin was a symbol of the west success
-people were unhappy with political and economic conditions in east Germany
-people were poorer in east Germany due to not being allowed private buisness

What started to happen due to the conditions in east Germany?
People wanted to move over to the west which created tension and make communism look weak

The brain drain was when very important key workers started leaving eat Germany because they got paid better in the west

-the communist regime was unpopular and people were constantly monitored by the secret police
