National Interest and Foreign POlicy
National Interest
Something which a nation agrees on as a whole
Peacekeepers
armed forces that maintain peace by keeping enemies apart until a crisis can be resolved
Peace making
force is used to resolve unrest. Like in Afghanistan.
Arctic Sovereignty
The national organization representing the Inuit in Canada feels the federal government should provide more money for better housing, health care and education.
Foreign policy
Decisions about official relations with other countries. Could include international organizations like United Nation and World health Organization
Canada’s stand point on the Arctic.
It is the government’s responsibility and its best interest to help in the Inuit’s endeavor.
Why Canada entered WW1
Canada was a colony of England. They were part of the Allies and when members were threatened they needed to join in. Many Canadians believed fighting the was was in their national interest. Jobs were created from the war.
Causes of WW1
A Serbian nationalist assassinated Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. European countries began to ally with each other. Austria-Hungary declared war on Servia. Russia declared war on Austria Hungary. Then Germany declared war on Russia. Germany attacked Belgium and France and then England became involved.
Treaty of Versailles 4 points
-Germany needed to reduce it’s military
-Germany had to pay countries for the costs of ware
-Germany had to give up territory to Europe
-Germany had to accept responsibility for causing all the loss and damage that had affected the Allies
