Unit 2: Chapter 1 - Motion Flashcards
Distance-time Graphs
What does the gradient of distance-time graph represent?
THE GRADIENT ON A DISTANCE-TIME GRAPH REPRESENTS SPEED.
/ = Constant speed
_ = Stationary
Speed (m/s) = Distance (m) / Time (s)
Velocity and Acceleration
VELOCITY IS SPEED IN A GIVEN DIRECTION.
If the speed is constant but the direction is constantly changing, this means the velocity is not constant.
ACCELERATION
ACCELERATION OF AN OBJECT IS CHANGE IN VELOCITY/ SECOND.
CHANGE IN VELOCITY/ TIME = ACCELERATION.
Velocity-Time Graphs
THE GRADIENT ON A VELOCITY-TIME GRAPH REPRESENTS ACCELERATION.
/ = Accelerating
_ = Constant speed
\ = Slowing down / braking
The area under the line on a velocity-time graph represents distance travelled.
